Little Bird founder Sarah Burningham offers more than 10 years of publishing experience to her clients. Before founding Little Bird in 2009, she was the Associate Director of Marketing for HarperStudio, where she managed the marketing and publicity campaigns for a number of successful titles, including Who is Mark Twain?, a previously unpublished collection by Mark Twain, bestselling chef celebrity Emeril Lagasse, Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno, and Burn This Book edited by Toni Morrison, among others. She also acquired and edited the upcoming book Crazy Busy Beautiful by Carmindy, the makeup artist on the hit show What Not To Wear, giving her experience on both the editorial and marketing sides of the publishing fence.
Before joining HarperStudio, Sarah worked as the Associate Director of Publicity at William Morrow / HarperCollins Publishers and REGAN, where she created and executed campaigns for Ralph Nader, Neal Boortz, the late William F. Buckley, Jr., Frank Warren’s bestselling PostSecret series, Clinton strategist Doug Schoen, Beth Lisick’s popular Helping Me Help Myself, and the late Jeanne Kirkpatrick. She’s also worked in publicity at Workman Publishing, Miramax Books, and Gibbs Smith Publisher, with bestselling authors ranging from the Cake-Mix Doctor Anne Byrne to Steven Raichlen, million-copy selling author of The Barbecue Bible.
For all of her campaigns, Sarah aligns traditional publicity with new media, creative partnerships and innovative marketing strategies. She’s collaborated with companies including Tupperware, Remy Martin, The Sak handbag company, J.Crew, Sephora, Perrier-Jouet, and Wilton baking products, ultimately increasing sales and generating general consumer awareness.
In addition to her publishing and publicity experience, Sarah has written two of her own books, both published by Chronicle Books. Her first, How to Raise Your Parents: A Teen Girl’s Survival Guide, came out in May 2008 and was featured on the Today Show, FOX News, CBS News, NPR, in Newsweek, and on local TV and radio programs around the country. Her second, Boyology: A Teen Girl’s Crash Course in All Things Boy, was published in June of 2009 to rave reviews and major national media, including The Today Show, ABC News Now, Teen Vogue, and multiple interviews on Oprah Radio. She is also the advice columnist behind dear sarah, an advice column with ABC Family.
Sarah’s rare combination of experience on both sides of the publishing business enables her to work closely with all kinds of authors and publishers. She only takes on projects she believes in and invests her efforts in each of them completely.
